happened&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>I <a href=\"https:\/\/stude.vonadatech.com\/wp\/interior-plastic\/\">purchased reproduction interior plastic bits<\/a> back in 2013.\u00a0 The knob attached to the crank by peening the soft metal shaft of the knob over.\u00a0 This has come apart multiple times but I was always able to tap it enough to get it to stay on.\u00a0 This time the special washer that goes behind the handle vanished so I will have to figure something else out.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stude.vonadatech.com\/wp\/repair-and-upgrades\/broken-window-crank-handle\/attachment\/img_20200902_184250854\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-930\"><img loading=\"lazy\" lose.\u00a0 The shaft for the knob is getting pretty ratty.\u00a0 There is not really enough metal to just bend it over again.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stude.vonadatech.com\/wp\/repair-and-upgrades\/broken-window-crank-handle\/attachment\/img_20200902_185300350\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-924\"><img loading=\"lazy\" a washer that is pretty close, a screw, and a tap that matches the screw.\u00a0 I will drill out the shaft of the knob and tap it.\u00a0 Then the screw and washer can hold it on, hopefully forever.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stude.vonadatech.com\/wp\/repair-and-upgrades\/broken-window-crank-handle\/attachment\/img_20200902_185858157\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-925\"><img knob to sit flat so I can drill right down the middle.\u00a0 I basically eyeballed it.\u00a0 To improve my odds I used a center drill to start the hole.\u00a0 A lathe would have worked a lot better than my drill press but you use what you have.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stude.vonadatech.com\/wp\/repair-and-upgrades\/broken-window-crank-handle\/attachment\/img_20200902_190503536\/\" it.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t have a bottom tap and the metal of the shaft is something really soft like tin.\u00a0 \u00a0I threaded it as deep as i dared.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stude.vonadatech.com\/wp\/repair-and-upgrades\/broken-window-crank-handle\/attachment\/img_20200902_191513278\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-927\"><img loading=\"lazy\" used red Loctite when I put the screw in.\u00a0 It looks pretty good but the shaft is really soft and I drilled out a lot of it.<\/p>\n<p><a seems good now.\u00a0 If this breaks I can do two things.\u00a0 First, buy another handle.\u00a0 Second I could drill out the entire shaft and epoxy a brass shaft into the plastic handle.\u00a0 That would be strong enough to drill and tap.
